Who can apply for this type of visa?

  • - Individuals, member of religious congregations registered at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica.

Application Requirements:

  1. Visa application letter that indicates the following personal information: a. Complete name b. Nationality c. Marital status d. Profession e. Date of birth f. Place and approximate date of arrival and departure from Costa Rica g. Type,  validity and passport number h. Contact information (phone number, e-mail, residence address) i. The letter will be signed in front of the consul on the day of the appointment
  2. 1 recent passport-size photo
  3. Copy of the information page of the passport. The passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months.
  4. Letter from the religious congregation in Costa Rica stating:
    1. Description of the applicant´s tasks in Costa Rica
    2. Date of the applicant´s arrival and departure from Costa Rica
  5. Original and copy of a certification issued by the Office of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica (Dirección de Culto del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto de Costa Rica), indicating that the religious congregation is registered in Costa Rica.
  6. Original and copy of the following documents with less than 6 months of issuance and duly apostilled:
    1. International birth certificate
    2. Criminal record from the place where the applicant has lived during the last 3 years
  7. Proof of economic solvency.
  8. Any other documents requested by the Consul after receiving the documents.

Starting the process at the Embassy:

If the documents are complete and correct, an appointment at the Embassy or Honorary Consulate will be scheduled in order to stamp the visa in the passport. Please bring the original passport to the appointment.


Residency process in Costa Rica


  • - Visa: See Tariff 21
  • - Any additional costs requested by the Immigration Department to finish the residency application process.
