VISA FOR MEMBERS OF RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS

Who can apply for this type of visa?

Members of religious congregations registered at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto).

Requirements:

  1. Visa application letter that indicates the following personal information:
    1.  Complete name 
    2. Nationality
    3. Marital status 
    4. Profession 
    5. Date of birth 
    6. Place and date of arrival and departure from Costa Rica 
    7. Type, validity and passport number 
    8. Contact information (phone number, e-mail, address) 
    9. The letter will be signed in front of the consul on the day of the appointment
  2. 1 recent passport-size photo
  3. Copy of the personal information page of the passport. The passport must have a minimum validity of 6 months.
  4. Letter from the religious congregation in Costa Rica stating:
    1. The applicant´s tasks in Costa Rica
    2. The applicant´s arrival and departure from Costa Rica
  5. Certification of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto de Costa Rica), stating that the religious congregation is registered in Costa Rica.
  6. Original and copy of the following documents with less than 6 months of issuance and duly apostilled:
    1. International birth certificate
    2. Criminal record from the place where the applicant has lived during the last 3 years
  7. Proof of economic solvency.
  8. Other documents requested by the Consul.

Starting the process at the Embassy:

The interested person must send the documents to the Embassy of Costa Rica in Berlin. Once the documents have been revised an appointment at the Embassy will be given in order to sign the application form. Please bring the original passport to the appointment. 

The interested person must send the documents to the Embassy of Costa Rica in Berlin at least one month and a half prior to the flight to Costa Rica.

If you start the process at an Honorary Consulate of Costa Rica in Germany, you must also do so a month and a half in advance, but you must coordinate previously with the respective Consulate.

 

Concluding the process in Costa Rica

On the day of the appointment the visa will be stamped in the applicant's passport and the original documentation will be returned. The interested person must travel to Costa Rica within 60 days after the visa is stamped. After entering Costa Rica, the interested person will have a period of 30 days to formalize the residency application at the Immigration Office (Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería) and must submit the original documents.

  • - Any additional costs requested by the Immigration Department (Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería) to finish the application process.

  • - Regulation 36626-G for the issuance of entry visas to Costa Rica, Chapter III, Section I. (Reglamento para el otorgamiento de visas de ingreso a Costa Rica).
