REQUIRED VACCINES TO TRAVEL TO COSTA RICA

There are cases, in which it is necessary to get vaccinated against the yellow fever in order to travel to Costa Rica.

Who should be immunized against the yellow fever?

All travelers intending to visit the country and that are traveling from or through any of the following countries:

  • Angola
  • Benin
  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Burkina Faso
  • Burundi
  • Cameroon
  • Central African Republic
  • Chad
  • Colombia (with the exception of Baranquilla, Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, San Andrés Providencia and Bogotá)
  • Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo)
  • Ecuador
  • Ethiopia
  • Eritrea
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • French Guiana
  • Gabon
  • Ghana
  • Gambia
  • Guinea
  • Guinea-Bissau
  • Ivory Coast
  • Kenya
  • Liberia
  • Mali
  • Mauritania
  • Niger
  • Nigeria
  • Peru
  • Republic of Congo
  • Republic of South Sudan
  • Sao Tome and Principe
  • Senegal
  • Sierra Leone
  • Somalia
  • Sudan
  • Tanzania
  • Togo
  • Trinidad and Tobago (Except for the urban area of Port-of-Spain)
  • Uganda
  • Venezuela (Except Aragua, Carabobo, Miranda, Vargas, Trujillo, Merida, Tachira, Falcon and Lara States, Margarita Island, Caracas, Valencia, La Guaira)
  • Zambia

Requirements

Travelers proceeding from these countries must present a valid international certificate of vaccination against the yellow fever so that they are allowed to enter Costa Rica. The vaccine should be applied at least 10 days before the arrival in Costa Rica.
